IS YOUR REC TEAM READY FOR BETTER COMPETITION?
We welcome players and teams from recreation leagues to join our youth program which competes against teams from all over Arapahoe County. AYL offers two levels of competition, moderate and advanced competition. Please contact Isaac with questions.
General Information
Patriot Youth Sports now offers separate basketball divisions for both boys and girs in the 2nd through 6th grades. The Patriots compete against other youth clubs in theArapahoe Youth League. Players must play at their current grade level, or they can choose to “play-up” one grade level. However, players are not allowed to play at a level lower than their current grade level.
Note: The Patriots reserve the right to combine players in different grade levels to fill a team roster. The team will then play at the highest grade level represented on the team. For example, four 2nd graders and five 3rd graders are combined and play in the 3rd grade level. The Patriots also reserve the right to not field teams at all if there are insufficient players to fill a roster. If this is the case, registration fees will be fully refunded.
The Patriots will accept complete team registrations or individual player registrations. If you are a coach with a complete team, we require that your team has a minimum of 8 players, and we recommend that there are no more than 10 players on your team. The registration fee is the same per player whether signing up individually or as part of a complete team. Practices will begin in early November and will be held at area schools and recreation centers. Practices will usually be held on week nights. The Patriots will provide 2-3 hours a week of practice gym time to each team (depending on facility availability and grade level).
The AYL regular season consists of 7 league games (some teams may play 8 games). League play begins the first weekend in December and continues through mid February. No AYL regular season games are scheduled during the winter school break. Games are played on Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays at facilities throughout the AYL territory. The AYL has a championship tournament following the regular season. All teams are guaranteed to play at least 2 tournament games. Championship games are played at the University of Denver.
Two Competitive Levels of Play:
Teams will be placed in one of the following levels based on the skill and experience of the team overall and the individual player’s ability. Generally, the decision as to which level the team competes is up to the Head Coach.
- 1-League: Intermediate level for more experienced/skilled players and teams within the specific age group.
· 0-League: Advanced level for the most competitive players and teams within the specific age group.
